In the French version of Grainsalt, detective Jules Compacteur presents some images of the world he has traveled. When he takes action, he undertakes to solve twelve criminal cases. The culprit is among the eleven other characters, the temptation of suicide does not inhabit the protagonists. When one of them is unmasked, the image of his victim is decorated with a red star. During the investigation, the protagonists unduly suspected are indicated by a yellow star. A victim retains his power to cause harm, he can be designated as guilty. It is possible to repeat an investigation by resurrecting the victim and absolving the culprit. When the player has identified the twelve culprits, the faces of the twelve characters are decorated with a red star.
Having reached this stage, the player accesses the stories concerning the twelve accomplices, these characters who act in the shadows and who try to manipulate their contemporaries.
